The Birmingham Creative Community- 12 key places, events, groups and markets.

Feeling firmly settled in Birmingham and its creative community, we thought it was finally time to put all the resources we have gathered along the way in one handy place!

Newsletters

  • I Choose Birmingham- A sure classic and also worth a twitter follow. Created by Tom Cullen, sign up for events, news and witty commentary.

  • The Old Post Office Newsletter- Curated by designer and community champion Kerry Leslie, this newsletter has a Stirchley theme (The Old Post Office is a coworking space in Stirchley!) but also lots of good recommendations and events.

  • Brumbox- A Short and sweet newsletter split into three categories; Do this, Picture This and Consider This. Also a great place to pick up some Birmingham merch!

Oh who’s that in I Choose…

Events

  • Picnic- A bit biased on this one, but Picnic is a meet up for the illustration community in Brum. We are in our first year of running the informal gatherings but have many future plans!

  • Overlap- The quarterly animation ‘Show and Tell’. Held in Irish Pub Nortons in Digbeth, it’s a chance to sit back, relax and watch some lovely moving images. You can also submit your own work to be shown.

  • Gather/ Birmingham Design Fest- BDF was our first port of call for information on the creative community when we first moved to Brum and BOY did Luke and Dan not disappoint. Luke, Dan and the BDF team run several events including Gather (One night events with Speakers), Birmingham Design Festival (Once every two years, city wide creative festival with talks, workshops and parties!) and many more such as seasonal socials.

Groups

  • BDF Slack- An online group ran by the folks at Birmingham Design. A good place for updates, opportunities and connecting with other local creatives! Get in touch with Birmingham Design to be added.

  • Fuse Birmingham- A platform which celebrates creatives of colour in Brum. Get added to the directory and check out opportunities.

Markets

Selling at Blue Moon Market in Moseley

Red Brick Market in Digbeth

Plenty of absolute gems for you there to sink your teeth into! Also its very key to remember we mostly recommend the PEOPLE of Birmingham. A proper friendly bunch so if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to the community!
