Follow the Foxes- 20 Illustrated Foxes for Blaby District Tourism and Heritage Trail

As the Fosse Foxes trail at the new Fosse Park West site launches, we are excited to share an extension of the trail we worked with alongside the folks at Blaby District Council! We can now introduce you to the 20 other fox boys which are dotted around the tourism sites around Blaby District. We designed a unique pattern inspired by tourism locations in Blaby District. Each one has its own unique emblem and arrangement of the pattern to give each location its own personalised fox, celebrating all the different places you can visit in the district.

Without further ado here is the list of all the foxes and the sites they can be found at:

The Process

So what does designing a bespoke pattern that suits 20 tourism sites look like? Good question.

Firstly, we created a bank of symbols, with each symbol representing each location. These then feature as an emblem on the fox as well as making up the remaining pattern which decorates the sculpture. We used colours inspired by Blaby Districts branding so the foxes would be instantly recognisable as an initiative created by the District.

With the symbols approved by the location owners and the Blaby District Tourism Partnership (after a bit of tweaking here and there) we then had to await the arrival of the 20 wild animals- in batches of 10 to make it a bit more manageable!

During two weeks in March we painted both batches of foxes in our at home conservatory studio. We first gave them their blue patterned bases, then became experts at painting the various symbols in various places on the foxes, swiftly realising what shapes worked best on which limbs of the foxes!

Since the launch of the project, we are loving seeing the foxes out of Lauren’s conservatory and into their new homes and locations, showcasing all the district has to offer. The project has been a great way to promote well known attractions, as well as hidden gems in the area. Alongside the foxes there is a map we also created on the Blaby District website which can be accessed here.

Happy fox finding! We hope you have as much fun finding them all as we did designing and painting them all.
