'Turning Spaces Into Places' - The Future of Pickle

Hello! It’s time for an update from Pickle HQ on where we are going and what we plan to do next. Strap in because it could be a bumpy ride!

Our Mission

Putting words to our mission is one of the hardest processes we have had to go through when growing Pickle. We have always known and seen the benefits of creating illustrations and how ideas can brighten peoples day but have always struggled explaining WHAT the end goal was for us and the ways in which we were going to get there.

After a CHONKY brainstorming session one mid May lunchtime, we finally nailed down what our mission was, drumroll. ‘Finding Creative Ways to Connect People’. We noticed our main goal was creating connections, whether this be to a space, other people or to an idea. Illustrations spread JOY and we think that's serious business.

Now what does this look like in terms of what work we want to make...

1.Turn Space into Places with Public Art and Murals

We want to get illustration INTO where people move and belong. We’ve done lots of research into the benefits of creativity in placemaking and want to be a part of creating artwork that connects with people in any given space.

Art trails, murals and giant colouring in walls form this part of our service and we are excited for all the spaces we can pickle-ify in the future!

2. Creative Community Projects

This has a strong connection to our first service as we want to make sure we are designing FOR a community. The projects that have been touched by the people they are designed for are the most powerful and massively contribute to the benefits that can be gained from commissioning illustration.

Inviting the community into the brainstorming phase OR being part of a giant colouring in wall are all ways people can be involved in the creative process.

3.Print and Digital Commissions

Alongside our public art based offerings, we will also continue to work with brands and organisations to add illustrations into their communications. From animations to company postcards we want to inject some character into projects and create designs that are bespoke to the story the client wants to tell.

So that's the update! Thanks for sticking with us on this journey. Starting up a business straight out of university was always going to be a very public learning curve but we think it's something we should embrace. We all gain comfort from hearing about ‘failings’ and shoutout to Elizabeth Day for pointing out that these ‘failures’ are often the things we need to grow! (deep)

Enough waffle for today, keep failing everyone and enjoy the sun!
